Welcome to Monday and a new week. I hope everybody had a great weekend, regardless of where you are on the 🌎. In the US, it’s spring and things are looking green, while in the southern hemisphere Summer is coming to an end.
I plan to send these every Monday and take a look back on the previous week and some of the things I’ve seen, heard, or experienced. Hopefully you’ll find something interesting to think about, explore, or just ponder.
Viewing Habits:
An interesting statistic I came across last week: 74% of adults use YouTube and they have over 2 billion active users. Without question I watch YouTube more than any other media platform. Here’s just a small slice of the channels I’ve binged on over the past week.
If you’re someone who loves fitness and pushing themselves, and need a little motivation every now and then, let me introduce you to a couple of YouTube channels that have been providing me with a little extra kick.
Lately I’ve been hooked on watching Triathlete channels. Obviously, I’m not a professional athlete, not to mention I can’t swim very well and I don’t own a bike. But just because I don’t train at the same level as these superhuman specimens doesn’t mean I can’t learn a few things and gain some inspiration. Here are a few channels that I’ve binged on over the last week.
Lionel Sanders – Ironman Triathlete with attitude. Part human, part machine. Whether he’s sporting a mustache or a full beard, I’ve learned a lot from this guy.
Ari Klau – Elite runner (think sub-14 minute 5K), espresso addict, also an impressive mustache, and intense competitor now transitioning to triathlons.
Justin Metzler – Ironman Triathlete who along with his wife show you the life of a triathlete. Hint: It involves hours and hours of hard training.
The Wrong Kind of Gainzzzz:
According to www.cnbc.com, roughly 42% of American adults reported weight gain during the Covid-19 pandemic. Average weight gain? 29 lbs. Time to hit up the gym and take advantage of warmer weather to get moving. Need some motivation? See above.
Teens Love Apple:
According to a new survey from Piper Jaffray, nearly 70% of US teens own AirPods while 88% have an iPhone.
Quote of the Week:
A Quote by…me: “Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.” One good example? A toilet seat that opens when you approach it. Have we gotten so lazy that we can’t reach down a few inches and lift a lid? If I had the same net worth as Jeff Bezos I wouldn’t buy one of these things. Just because you can…
That’s all for this week. Enjoy your brew and have a great Monday!
Rick
Brilliant – I love the idea of this weekly ‘but first coffee’.
Loved the toilet seat story.
I am looking forward to next weeks instalment already….

Thanks Shaun. Of course the style was inspired by 1) your Postcards and 2) an online newsletter I recently subscribed to, Morning Brew. Let’s see if I can keep it going for once. Thanks for reading!
